My platform was raising awarness on the effects media has on todays REAL society but this thought has completely changed over the last few months. In my community we have had multiple deaths involving motor vehicle accidents. 4 young men have passed away from my school alone within the year of 2011 and there is only about 400 students in our school. If this wasnt a statistic proven right about every 1 in 100 teens dying in vehicle accidents, I dont know what is!

This last Friday there was a fatal accident involving 5 young amazing teen age boys whom all went to the Grande Prairie Compoiste High School. The only survivor from the crash was my good friend Zachary Judd who I’ve known for many years.  He is currently at the U of A hospital being looked after by the best doctors available. He is one strong young man and will alway be in my prayers till he is better. He’s a figher and he will continue to fight on. I didnt know the 4 boys who passed away  but I give out my heart and prayers to their families and friends who are affected. Its not my place to say further details on the accident or on the conditons of Zach.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/story/2011/10/23/grande-prairie-crash-charges.html

Drinking and driving was a major factor in many of the accidents in the Peace Country Region. This has torn apart many families and will continue to if this terrible trend keeps on happening. I beg you for the ones who read my blog be an aware, defensive, smart, and alert driver and never have drink before going behind the wheel or getting in with a drunk driver. You’ll regret it and thats a promise.

R.I.P – Dean  Chowace, Cameron Goodswimmer, Brandon Moses, Matthew Kiywasew. These were the young men  who lost there lives at my school. I also give my condolences to the families of the 4 young boys who lost there lives in Grande Praire.

We love you Zachary and I really hope you make it through this. <3.

I am trying to make awarness on the issue of recklace and drunk driving. With the amount of loss in my community and surrounding areas  due to vehicle accident, I want to take a stand and put it out there that this is a serious issue and and it can be prenvented in all cirrcumstances. My family was affected and I know how it is to see so much pain come from this that it really hurts my heart. So please make it clear to make the right desicions when driving cause it can save lives.

I know I havent updated in awhile but the truth is, I havent had inspiration to. I know its an easy thing to do once and awhile and I can probably do it all the time.

As entering Gr.11 has had its challenges adjusting to the real world, I have been learning to cope. Now that Im 16, I have to realize Im 16, not turning 25. As my dad told me, ” you still have a lot of growin- up to do before you actually grow- up.” I made mistakes, I may or may not have learned from them, but atleast Im having experinces you’re supposed to have when you’re young and stupid; so Im told…  Right now I sit at my computer thinking. Thinking about how my life is going to have its ups and downs, when and where Ill be going to school in a short 2 years, and what I am going to be when I grow- up. Yes, I still ask myself that question sometimes!

=). Because you deserve to!

Im not in gymnastics this year, but I am definitly excited for curling to start up this winter. I cant wait! When I am on the sheets of ice I feel invincable. I do get frustrated but the stress and time needed to get good, is worth it. My goal this year is get as good as my ablities will let me in this sport. Curling in my community and in my family is a hobbie that many of us are involved in. The Redwillow Curling Club is the place where we play games and practice. To be honest I was never really interested in it until the last couple years. I was a sub for my mom and Auntie Roxanne’s team from time to time. These 2 ladies were the ones who really introduced me to curling. They have been involved in our club for many, many years. They were my teachers and I know they still have much more to help me with. Last year I was on the school’s mixed curling team. My team mates were awesome and easy to get along with. I never really knew who they were untill we were put on a team togther. It was a great learning experience, thats for sure.

This year in school, Im still attending at Hillside Junior/Senior High School. The classes I have this semester are chemistry20, biology20, and math20-1. Im not at student that excels in everything I do but I defintitly giver a good effort. Friends are very important to me and to everyone Id assume. My bestfriends since Ive entered this school in Gr.7 are Arianna, Haylee, and Shannaya. These ladies have been there for me whenever I need them the most. Like every group of girls there was a little bit of drama, but that wasnt enough to break us up. When I look down the hallways at school, I can probably name everyone that walks by. We fianlly hit 400 students!

Im perfectly happy with my life right now. Nothing could make it more perfect! I have my family, my friends, and even the people who come and go still have a positive impact on my life because everything is a learning experience. Most of the time Im a pretty easy going, fun, loving person, even at the most stressful of times. Im not the richest, most athletic, prettiest, or smartest girl in my school, but from where I look at it Ive achieved so much, I have to give myself credit for being the only person I want to be. And that person is me. =)

This is a little taste of what Ive been up to

xoxo-

I’ve been thinking, if i was a tv show host what would my show be called, about, and who would watch it. I concluded that  I would be the host of a hit TV show called Teen Trivia. This show would consist of me going out across the world and getting fashion, health, make-up, and relationship advice from one area of the world and compare it to another. This show will share advice which allows everyone learn, use , and try new techniques. Yes, looks aren’t everything but everyone cares so why not embrace them?

On my first journey I plan to travel to France and find out the secrets many teens use to stay fit, healthy, fresh faced, and how to keep it real. I will be filmed by a local Canadian Broadcasting Company that will air my show internationally. I will hold auditions for a co-host that will also be a teen that has a good attitude and is a person people everywhere can look up to. We will travel together and pretty much become family.

Cost is a major factor in this event. This is why I’m hoping the major beauty and fashion companies would like to sponsor this show. Marc Jacobs and Rimmel London are very committed and dedicated groups that love to show how inner a beauty doesn’t only show through your personally but in the way one puts themselves together. This would not only be a great opportunity for me but for them also. They wou,d get tons of advertising and we really believen what these two companies stand for; Inner and outer beauty. I know many people think looks don’t matter but everyone cares so yet again I ask why not embrace it!

Rimmel London

As many of you readers know Rimmel is a company famous world wide for their production in make-up and beauty products including nail polish, false nails, make-up etc. They are also a very proud sponsor for Miss Teen Canada- World. I use the Rimmel eye products on a day-to-day basis.

Rimmel- http://www.rimmellondon.com

Marc Jacobs

This clothing and accessories line is recognized across the world!! I believe it would be such and honor for them to sponsor this amazing organization. His clothing are not “just” clothes they’re personality. He also has a collection of perfume out.  This is the perfect type of company we can work around and help establish easily. Not only does this give them a great promoting option but also us the chance to build a name and reputation as  new show!!!

Me with Marc Jacob perfume =)

Yours truely,
Hanna Peterson =)

Yesterday, July 9th, was my first day at the Miss Teen Canada- World pageant. Arriving in the Toronto airport made me realize this was all so real! At the airport I met up with two other alberta girls, Samantha and Sara. We were picked up together. As the day went on and more girls started to get to the hotel we had a small briefing on what we learned at the Provincial pageant we all attened in our home provinces. Walking and standing weree touched on. I met some of the ladies but not becuase there is just just so many of us, but by the end of the week i’m sure we’ll all be friends! Day 1 was by far the most tiring but still very rewarding on many levels. =)

Disney’s Club Penguin is the internet’s most safe, secure, fast growing, on-line worlds for children. This is a free, family fun site, however for every subscription bought it allows you more additional features and the proceeds go  out to help make the world a better place for children and families across the world to live.

Free the Children has many partners involved with helping their organization reach its primary goal. Children helping children through education is the motto they live and strive by. They have built over 500 schools across the globe and gave over 500000 kids the chance to get an education because every child has the right to learn to read and write. Everyone can get involved in the simplest ways. Even you. To learn more please follow the link provided. http://www.freethechildren.com/getinvolved/

Where Club Penguin is Helping

Club Penguin is Helping on over 34 countries across the world. They are partnered with many other recognizable charities and organizations because they believe that without the help of others they wouldn’t be able to reach the goals creating safe places, protecting the earth, and providing medical help across the globe because these things are not a privilege but a right. They believes that everyone is entitled to education and hope for a bright future. This is why they are a global community. To Club Penguin they say the meaning behind a global community is giving back and that exactly what they are set out to do.

In December between the 11th and the 21st Club Penguin encourages the players to donate the coins they earn playing the virtual game of Club penguin to 3 worthy causes; Kids who are poor, Kids who are sick, and the environment. Many of the kids that play this game showed their support by throwing fundraiser igloo parties in the virtual world. The smallest of things can help. By the end about 4 billion coins have been donated. A pol was taken on how 1 million dollars should be divided evenly between Kids who are sick, Kids who are poor, and the Environment. It was tallied that it was pretty even. This was a great success. http://www.clubpenguin.com/parents/coins-for-change-2009.htm

Club Penguin was made public on October 4th, 2005. Within a short 2 years it had over 3.9 million users. The amount of user had given the site an even bigger advantage to get people involved in the world. By the time Disney bought out Club Penguin it had about 12 million users and about 700 000 paying subscribers that brought in about about 40 million dollars of revenue annually. This money needed to go somewhere in the world so why not put it to good use?

Club Penguin got involved because Disney believes that everyone across the world deserve a life of ease and a brighter future. They are involved in many other projects across the globe along with Free the Children. Please take a few minute to see what they have done to make a difference and how they helped many families and children. The link below will show you the way. http://www.clubpenguin.com/global-citizenship/

I will be holding a Free the Children Fundraiser on June 26th. I’m sure it will be tons of fun and something everyone will enjoy. The Free the Children Bottle Drive should be a great success and it can get many involved. This will take place at the Sturgeon Lake Camp ground about 15 km away from Valleyview on HWY 43. Its easy to get involved and give up a little time to help a good cause. Now its your turn.

I not only have one home town but two; the community of Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation and the town of Valleyview, Alberta. These two places are about 20 km apart. I live on the reserve of Sturgeon Lake but I have done all my schooling in Valleyview at Oscar Adolphson Primary (K-3), Harry Gray elementary (4-6), and the school I’m currently in Hillside JR/SR High School (7-12).

OAP! My very first school =)

I have gone to school with many of my fellow class mate to this day from OAP all the way up to HSH. We are a very close school where you know and see everyone on a daily basis. In two more years of schooling I hope to graduate with all the people I’ve gone to school with since Kindergarten.

Valleyview was first established in 1916 but it was originally called Red Willow until realized that the name Red Willow was already used for another settlement. In the 1950′s oil was struck in the area. This caused the increase of population and services. Valleyview has a population of approximately 2000 people. When you grow up in a small town and community you know and remember a lot of the people you meet, whether it be through school or community events, it’s very beneficial on my hope to become Miss Teen Canada- World.

Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation

Beautiful Sturgeon Lake on a rainy day.

Sturgeon Lake has been around for many years. It was known as a meeting place for people to come and rest, meet new people and trade their goods at the Hudson’s Bay trading post located in Sturgeon. Many generations of my family have been traced back for over 100 years . Many of my ancestors from my mother’s side come from Sturgeon Lake. We are a very close community. You know everyone which makes the unity of the community even stronger aside from shared culture, religion and way of life. Over the years I have become closer to my community and family. My favorite parts about sitting at my grandma’s (kookum) house was listening to her, my grandpa (moosum), and other elders tell stories about the ways things were when they were my age. Some of the stories are rather funny and some where the ones that makes a person think about how privilged we are in today’s society compared to back then. This really made me think about who I really am, and who I’m really set out to be. I had gone to church one day with my kookum (grandma) and one of the other elders came up to me and told me how proud she was of me for representing our community and actually getting out in the world to make a difference. I was amazed on how this opportunity of going to Toronto for the MTC-W pageant has impacted me in the eyes of my community and I realized, I’m not only doing this for me, but for my community.

In Valleyview and sturgeon Lake we don’t have much  of a varity of “cool” hang out spots. We don’t have any arcades or anything like that so we all tend to just hang out at our homes or chill in the back yard with friends and have good time. My favorite times are hanging out with my best friends and going down to the river, swimming and just having fun with the good company. Since I live right near the Sturgeon Lake us as a family love to take the boat out and go for a good day of fishing.

The Boat

There are many things in Valleyview that many people in our community come and socialize and have a good time with the peoples of the town. We have an annual Fair that comes to town for 2 days each which is sponsored by the Valleyview Chamber of Commerce which also is sponsoring me for my Toronto trip. They have held many events from BBQ’s to the streets preforms. Also the town council is very involved in getting people to get more out in their community.

Tourist info Booth!

The 25th anniversary of our tourist information booth was one of the ones a previously volunteered at. I met tons of new people. It is said that our tourist information booth is the 2nd busiest in Alberta!  How awesome is that.

What my Valleyview Has to Offer-    Valleyview has many things for anyone to do, visitors or even the people who’ve lived here their whole life, like me. Some of the activities are swimming in our newly renovated outdoor pool and skating in our hockey rink. Baseball, Soccer and swim club are also provided for today’s youth. Curling, one of the sports I play, is a major thing in Valleyview. During the winter months the Red willow Curling Club holds many curling leagues including the men’s, ladies, mixed, and juniors. They also have a Thursday nights fun league for anyone to come out and try.

Main Street

Now that you gotta taste of my home communities I really hope you all consider supporting me to the top towards my dream on becoming Miss Teen Canada- World! A small town like this makes it even more difficult to become involved in the modeling and acting industries, so with this opportunity of a life time I hope to come out into the world and become the best possible person I can be!

Hey Everyone! I’m Hanna Peterson from Valleyview Alberta / Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation. I am a very outgoing person who has many hobbies and interests. I particiapate in many school sports. Gymanstics, volleyball, curling, and track & field are my favorite things to do so far. I love to hangout with my family and friends.

Volleyball 2009/2010

I take school studies seriously and aspire to be in the law or medical field after gradutaing high school  in 2013. I am currently in grade 10 at Hillside JR/SR High School. The courses I excel in are math, phys. ed and english.

Living in a small town has its challenges, especially in Valleyview. It is very diffuclt to advance in the modelling and acting industry. This is one of the many reasons I chose to enter the Miss Teen Canada- World pageant. I have little modelling experience, although i hope to gain  experience at the Miss Teen Canada-World Pageant. With this chance of a life time, I hope to make a difference in my community. The information, experience and skills attained through this amazing opportunity I will share with my peers back home at the Sturgeon Lake Youth Confrence scheduled for July 25-29, 2011.

My biggest role model is my mom. I know for a fact its not easy being a single parent of 4 and having to support us all on her own for the past year. She is a strong independent woman who can handle any task. I know this because she is the person I look up for anything. People tend to say they look up to the most famous person in the fashion, music, acting industries, or the person who is on every headline. I don’t.

My Strength

We have gone through many challenges in our life but we all have managed to get over them with her as our support. I really believe i couldn’t have became Miss Teen Northwest Alberta and got this chance of a life with out her.

Miss Teen NorthWest AB =)

I hope you learned a little more about me and I thank you for helping me to the top!

Yours Truly,

Miss Teen NorthWest Alberta- World

Hanna Peterson

Keep checking in for I will be keeping everyone updated .

A big hug and a kiss for the Shasha Bread Co for their tasty healthy snacks they provided and to the organizers of the Miss Teen Canada event. Also big thanks to the Internet marketing firm PageOne for all the help with my pageant blog.
